LG Innotek has developed what can safely be called the world’s smallest Bluetooth module. The dimensions of this miniature device are 6 millimeters in length and 4 millimeters in width, these dimensions, in turn, are three quarters of the sizes of similar modules, which were the smallest until recently. It is expected that the new module will be widely used in wireless headphones, in lighting control systems and other components of the smart home, and, of course, in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, which are literally becoming smaller and more economical in terms of the amount of energy consumed.
During the assembly of the new module, a number of high-precision technologies were used, which made it possible to place about 20 separate components on the tiny printed circuit board of the module, including a communication processor chip, resistors, capacitors and inductors. Also, the new module uses the “branded” technology of the integrated antenna, which allows you to get the maximum effective antenna area without allocating a separate space on the printed circuit board for it. In addition to saving space on the board, this technology allows you to increase the efficiency of the antenna, which has a positive effect on many characteristics of the module.
As a rule, creating such miniature devices, engineers make a number of compromises, which, sometimes, significantly degrade the parameters of the device. But in this case, this did not happen, the “telecommunication performance,” which means a combination of several specific parameters, of the new module exceeds by 30 percent the similar parameters of existing Bluetooth modules of the same class. As a result, the new modules can stably maintain communication and exchange data, despite the presence of obstacles and other interference that force the usual modules to break the connection.
Finally, there has recently been a dramatic expansion in the market for Bluetooth devices, most of which come from the Internet of Things. And LG Innotek plans, with the help of its innovative technologies, developed initially for the automotive industry and for household appliances, to capture, if not the entire market, then most of it.
